i. SSP-Eta Chapter is working this year with the Tarrant Area Food Bank on behalf of Cornerstone Community Center in Fort Worth.
ii. Our volunteer hours at the food bank help Cornerstone pay for transport, storage and distribution of food. We are acting in the capacity of Quality Control volunteers packing and inspecting food.
iii. We participated once last spring and will participate once again this semester.
c. Habitat for Humanity
i. Habitat for Humanity is a program that provided new housing for families, interest free. The families participate in building their own home and dedicate volunteer hours toward the construction of other new homes in the community. The families also attend classes in general upkeep of a house.
ii. SSP-Eta Chapter volunteered two times in the past year. We hope to continue our service to low income families.
d. Samaritan House
i. The Samaritan House is a non-profit organization aimed to help individuals who have HIV and AIDS. They offer nutrition, social services, counseling, substance abuse recovery, and life skills.
ii. SSP-Eta members cook and serve an Italian dinner, including lasagna and spaghetti, to about thirty (30) individuals at the Samaritan House once each semester.
e. Juvenile Diabetes Walk
i. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation raises money every year through walk and donations.
ii. As part of our commitment to health awareness and support towards our community, SSP members volunteered October 21, 2006. We were able to participate by helping set up for their health fair, prepare breakfast for the runners/walkers, and greet all of the participants.
f. D.O. Dash
i. D.O. DASH is a run/walk put together by the second year class of TCOM. The goal is to select a worthy charity each year in Fort Worth area to support. The 2006 Dash benefited the Reader’s First in Fort Worth. In 2007 D.O. Dash will support colon health and colon cancer screenings.
ii. There are many different booths set up by different organizations at the end of the race for participants to engage in. Some check blood pressures, cholesterol, BMI’s, and sugar while others work on raising awareness about different health issues prevalent the community.
g. Northside Health Fair
i. The Northside Health Fair is a free health fair held each November for community members of the Fort Worth community to obtain health information, get blood pressure screening, BMI checks, cholesterol screening, and a variety of other health-related booths.
ii. SSP-Eta Chapter staffed a table of volunteers to take blood pressure readings.

This included helping with college applications. We are excited about the prospect of being part of this important mentoring program again this year.
VI. Plans for 2007-2008
